Peters married investment adviser Michael Wittenberg on July 20, 1996 at the upstate New York home of long-time friend
Mary Tyler Moore . Wittenberg died at age 43 on September 26, 2005 in a helicopter crash inMontenegro while on a business trip. Three other people were killed in the crash, which occurred when the aircraft struck a high-voltage cable according to the police in Montenegro's capital.
