binary star in theconstellation Andromeda. It also has the traditional nameAdhil .Xi Andromedae is a
spectroscopic binary which is classified as an orange K-type giant with anapparent magnitude of +4.87. It has an orbital period of 17.77 days and is approximately 196light years from theEarth .Flamsteed was not designated "Bayer Cha." for his 46th of Andromeda in his star catalogue and atlas. And he was erroneously designated "ξ" for his 49th of Andromeda (Bayer's "A" And).
