Sperah

Sperah

Sperah (sometimes spelled Speyrah) is a small village nestled in a fertile valley in eastern Afghanistan. During the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan, Sperah sat along a highly-used smuggling route from Pakistan into Afghanistan. The area was known to harbor many ex-Taliban and Al Qaeda.

Sperah is known for being the location of the gunbattle between U.S. Army Rangers and Taliban insurgents in which Ranger Pat Tillman was fatally wounded by friendly fire.
