Deputy White House Chief of Staff

The Deputy White House Chief of Staff is officially the top aide to the White House Chief of Staff, who is the senior aide to the President of the United States. The Deputy Chief of Staff usually has an office in the West Wing and is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the White House bureaucracy, as well as such other duties as the Chief of Staff assigns to him or her. In some administrations, there are multiple deputy chiefs with different duties.

Blake Gottesman currently holds the post of Deputy White House Chief of Staff for Operations, responsible for day-to-day White House operations.

Joel Kaplan holds the post of Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy under George W. Bush.

*Bradley Whitford portrayed Deputy White House Chief of Staff Josh Lyman in the fictional Jed Bartlet Administration on the multiple Emmy Award winning television drama "The West Wing". Josh Lyman seemed to be most responsible for political affairs, liaisons, and operations.
*Chad Lowe portrayed Deputy White House Chief of Staff Reed Pollock, serving under Chief of Staff Tom Lennox and President David Palmer on the multiple Emmy Award nomination television drama "24". When Pollock believes the President is unfit to handle a national crisis, Pollock conspires to assassinate him by planting a bomb.
