Abdullah Abu Azzam al-Iraqi

Abdullah Abu Azzam al-Iraqi

Sheikh Abdullah Abu Azzam al-Iraqi (died September 2005) was an Iraqi man who the US and allies claim was a leading member of al-Qaeda in Iraq. According to them, he was an aide to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and was also known as the emir of Anbar. There was a reward of $50,000 offered for information leading to his death or capture; he was killed by the United States Army in a shootout in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

Born in Iraq, he originally joined the Jama'at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad, which later became al-Qaeda in Iraq. He was reported to be the number two leader and "chief financier" of the organisation.
