The building was finally condemned by the city in 2004 after citing it for numerous building code violations.cite web|url=http://www.mlive.com/flintjournal/index.ssf/2008/09/flint_to_buy_eyesore_judge_ord.html|work=The Flint Journal|title=Flint to buy 'eyesore' -- Judge orders city to turn over $1.5 million, maybe more, for Genesee Towers|author=Joe Lawlor|accessmonthday=September 25 |accessyear=2008] In November 2007 the streets around the tower were closed off due to the risk of concrete falling from the tower.
