next_route=250State Highway 249, or more commonly SH 249, is a generally north-south highway in
Southeast Texas . The current northern terminus of the highway is in Pinehurst at the intersection of FM 1774 and FM 149. The Southern terminus is in North Houston atInterstate 45 .SH 249 is also called the Tomball Parkway from Tomball to Beltway 8. From inside Beltway 8 to I-45, it is called West Mount Houston. Current plans call for the highway to extend to Bryan/College Station, when they complete it, it will be renamed the Aggie Expressway as
Texas A&M University is located in the Bryan/College Station area. It is possible that from Tomball north to Bryan/College Station, the highway could become a toll road to help pay for construction costs.Bryan-College Station Eagle , Brazos Valley Council considers toll road to fund transportation needs [http://www.theeagle.com/stories/091406/local_20060914004.php] ]Originally a part of FM 149, the highway was given the designation of SH 249 in 1988
Texas Department of Transportation , [http://www.dot.state.tx.us/tpp/hwy/sh/sh0249.htm] ] . The highway's importance grew after Compaq Computer Corporation moved its headquarters close to the intersection of SH 249 and Louetta RdHouston freeways, [http://www.houstonfreeways.com] ] . In 2003, a portion of SH 249 in Tomball was renamed BS 249-B from Hicks Road to Holdreith Road. This is due to a bypass that is currently under construction that will bypass Tomball on the west side of the city.Points of Interest (from South to North)
