Lady Pamela Carmen Louise Hicks, née Mountbatten (born
19 April 1929 Barcelona ) is a British aristocrat who is in theline of succession to the British Throne . She is the younger daughter of the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma by his wife, the former Edwina Ashley. She is the sister of the 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma. Through her father Lady Pamela is a first cousin of the Duke of Edinburgh. She accompanied her parents to India and remained with them there throughout her father's term as Viceroy of pre-Independence India and then Governor-General of post-Partition India in 1947-48. She is a great-great-grandchild ofQueen Victoria .She is the widow of designer
David Nightingale Hicks (25 March 1929 -29 March 1998 ), son of Herbert Hicks and Iris Elsie Platten. They were married on13 January 1960 at Romsey Abbey inHampshire .Lady Pamela has three children:

*Ashley Louis David Hicks (born18 July 1963 ), and
*India Amanda Caroline Hicks (born5 September 1967 ).She is a former lady in waiting and was bridesmaid to Queen Elizabeth II.
Pamela has published her memoirs of her days in
Delhi when theUnion Jack came down. Pamela writes in the book "India Remembered: A Personal Account of the Mountbattens During the Transfer of Power" that Edwina andNehru were deeply in love but "the relationship remained platonic.
