Shadow Mountain High School was opened in 1974. It is a public high school located in the north valley of Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The school is part of the Paradise Valley Unified School District. The school's athletic teams are known as the Matadors. Shadow Mountain's school colors are blue and gold. As of 2008, 1800+ students attended the school.
Extra curricular
The Shadow Mountain Marching Band is one of the most successful marching bands in Arizona. They have received Superior Ratings at many competitions over the years. Its 2006 season under the direction of Jan M. Gardner II with Color guard caption by Analicia Rodriguez, Percussion Caption Head Bryan Higgans, Battery Tech. Spencer Hawley, has been the most successful. While hosting the 2006 Division III State Marching Band Festival, the Marching Matadors took Sweepstakes in all captions with their show titled "The Island." The band is currently the largest band in the Paradise Valley school district.
The Shadow Mountain Academic Decathlon team hosted the Arizona Region II competition on February 2-3, 2007. The team beat out 28 other schools, and took first place with 39,200 points narrowly defeating South Mountain High School. The team tied for first place in the 2008 regional Super Quiz Competition.
