BBallHOF =Larry Eustachy (born
December 1 ,1955 inAlameda, California ) is the current head coach of TheUniversity of Southern Mississippi 's men'sbasketball team. He was hired as head coach onMarch 25 ,2004 . He had previously been head coach of the men's basketball teams at Idaho (1990 -1993 ), Utah State (1993 -1998 ) and Iowa State (1998 -2003 ). Eustachy won the AP National Coach of the Year after leading Iowa State to the Elite Eight in the 2000 NCAA Tournament.In 2003, while serving as head coach of the
Iowa State Cyclones , Eustachy made headlines inThe Des Moines Register and around the nation by attending and being photographed drinking and kissing female students at a student party inColumbia, Missouri . The party occurred hours after his team lost to theUniversity of Missouri . It was later learned that he had gone to a similar party on the campus ofKansas State University following a 2002 loss to the Wildcats. At the time, Eustachy was the State of Iowa's highest paid employee. Though Eustachy broke no laws, nor provisions of his contract, the matter played out like a scandal, and led to Eustachy's public admission ofalcoholism . He subsequently resigned onMay 5 ,2003 , receiving a $960,000 settlement from Iowa State. On January 9, 2008 he took a leave of absence to be with his ailing mother.Head Coaching Record By Year
