- Birecik Dam
Birecik Dam is one of the 21 dams of the
Southeastern Anatolia Project ofTurkey ,is located on theEuphrates river 60 km downstream ofAtatürk Dam and 8 km upstream ofBirecik town 80 km west of Province ofŞanlıurfa in the southeastern region ofTurkey
It was purposed forirrigation andenergy production.
There is ahydroelectric power plant, established in 2001, at thedam , with a power output of 672MW (six facilities at 112MW each) will generate an average of 2.5 billion kWh per year.
The Birecik dam is a structure constituted of aconcrete gravity and clay core sandgravel fill with a height of 62.5 m from the foundation.
