Tom Mandel (
1946 -April 6 ,1995 ) was born inChicago, Illinois He served in theUnited States Marine Corps in theVietnam War . In 1972, he was the first graduate of the [http://www.futures.hawaii.edu/dator/other/mandel.html futures program] at theUniversity of Hawaii . He then attendedSan Jose State College . He was then hired as a futurist by theStanford Research Institute , ("SRI").In addition to his work at SRI, Mandel was an editor of Time Online and an early active participant in The Well, an influential
online community .
