All three stations are operated out of WTVX's studios on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach. The station began broadcasting on
January 11 ,1991 as an independent and had the call letters W16AR. It was located on channel 16 and was licensed to Stuart. Ed Birchfield also briefly hosted a 7 PM "Treasure Coast News" program from February to July 1997. January 24 ,2006 , The WB and UPN networks announced that they would end broadcasting and merge. The new combined network would be called The CW, the letters representing the first initial of its corporate parentsCBS (the parent company of UPN) and theWarner Bros. unit ofTime Warner . WTVX, which was a full-powered station, was announced as becoming an affiliate of the new network. The CW began broadcasting onSeptember 18 . OnFebruary 22 ,FOX announced that they would start up another new broadcast television network called MyNetworkTV. The new network, which would be sister to FOX, would be operated by FOX Television Stations and its syndication divisionTwentieth Television .MyNetworkTV was created to give UPN and WB stations, not mentioned as becoming CW affiliates, another option besides becoming independent. It was also created to compete against The CW. At the time of the announcement of creating MyNetworkTV, it was unknown if there would be an affiliate in the Treasure and Gold Coasts.When MyNetworkTV launched on
September 5 , 2006, WTCN became an affiliate of the network. The station's website, was re-located at "wtcn.com" and was formatted with promotions for MyNetworkTV. The current MyNetworkTV logo for WTCN-CA has a 43 in it unlike its previous WB logo. However, the 43 label was in station logos before the WB affiliation. The "wtcn.com" URL address now redirects to its own separate section of the WTVX website since Four Points acquired the station. In 2006, WTCN placed sixth in the Nielsen ratings in the Palm Beach market with 0.4% of the audience.
