He is a famous foreign based Punjabi bhangra singer. Malkit Singh has become the first Punjabi singer to be honoured by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in London with the award of Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. He is most famous for the songs "Gur Nalo Ishq Mita", "Tootak Tootak Tootiyan", "Kurri Garam Jayee", "Dekh li vilyait", as well as recently, "Chal Hun," and "Jind Mahi" from the blockbuster Bend It Like Beckham film soundtrack.
His most recent release "21st chapter" (2006) featured the hugely popular and classic "Jago Aaya". Singh and his backup band Golden Star have toured in 27 countries.
Previous Occupation: Before he became a singer, Malkit Singh worked in a denim factory in Birmingham called Stag Jeans. It was here where he first started to write songs.

Awards and recognition
- In 1997, he was given the recognition of the city of Los Angeles for his service to the Indian community.
- He was listed in the 2000 Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling bhangra artist of all time.
- In 2001, Singh was awarded the 27th Convocation Gold Medal Award Doctorate by Guru Nanak Dev University.
- In 2005, Singh was awarded the "Commitment to Scene" award at the UK Asian Music Awards.[1]
- In 2008, Malkit Singh was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.
