Bob Hodge (runner)

Bob Hodge (runner)

Bob Hodge (born 1955), also known as Hodgie-San by fellow running enthusiasts, is an American distance runner originally from Lowell, MA who achieved some acclaim in the 1970s and 1980s. He placed 3rd in the 1979 Boston Marathon with a time of 2:12:30. He ran a personal best in the 1980 Nike OTC Marathon in Eugene, OR with a time of 2:10:59. He won several road races of note including the Mt. Washington Road Race (1976–1980, 1985 and 1987), the Bay to Breakers Road Race in San Francisco (1979) and the Beppu Marathon in Japan (1982).

Hodgie-San was and is an inspiration to many runners. He never achieved his dream of becoming an Olympian or winning the Boston Marathon but he came far closer than most and worked hard in trying to make his dream a reality. His personal website details many of his reflections and training methods that were part of his experience as he sought to enter American distance running's highest echelons during arguably its most glorious period.
