Benzaclin

Benzaclin is a drug gel typically prescribed to people suffering from acne vulgaris. It is a combination of (5%) of benzoyl peroxide and (1%) clindamycin (an antibiotic).

Its mode of action is from the combined anti-bacterial action of Clindamycin and from the comedolytic and anti-bacterial actions of benzoyl peroxide. Both ingredients have been shown to reduce the number of acne lesions with statistical significance.

Side effects include photosensitivity, dry skin, pruritis, dermatitis. Benzoyl peroxide may also permanently bleach clothing. Also, clindamycin, an ingredient in BenzaClin, may cause diarrhea.
