John Perry (musician)

John Perry (born 4 June 1952 in Bristol) is an English rock guitarist. He is most recognised for his involvement with the English punk rock band, The Only Ones. Other bands in which he played include The Ratbites from Hell (pre-Only Ones) and Decline and Fall (post-Only Ones).

Perry formed The Only Ones with Peter Perrett in 1976. Between 1976 and 1980 the band recorded three LPs for CBS Records (Epic Records in the U.S.) and numerous other albums have subsequently been released, including BBC Radio 1 John Peel sessions ("Darkness & Light: The Complete BBC Recordings").

Perry has also worked with Johnny Thunders, Marianne Faithfull, Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, The Sisters of Mercy, and the Scottish singer-songwriter, Freddie Stevenson.

Recently, he has written several music biographies: on The Who's singles (collected on the seminal album "Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy"), The Rolling Stones' double album "Exile On Main Street", and Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland".

In late February 2007, The Only Ones finally reformed.

Speculation that the band were briefly 'cashing in' seem refuted by the bands tour schedule throughout 2008. Sources close to the band confirm the new songs are being rehearsed for an album, planned for release in 2008.

Perry joined The Lemonheads on stage during their set at the Ben & Jerry's Summer Sundae festival in Clapham Common, London on Sunday 27th July 2008.
