KBTX-TV is the CBS television network affiliate located in Bryan/College Station, Texas. It airs on VHF Channel 3 and is owned by Gray Television. It is a sister station to KWTX-TV in Waco. Its transmitter is located in Carlos, Texas. In its own market, it broadcasts on Suddenlink channel 5 and on DirecTV. Dish Network has refused to offer KBTX to the Bryan/College Station area, and instead, carries KWTX.

KBTX also offers The CW programming on its digital feed. Prior to the September 2006 merger of The WB and UPN, KBTX offered UPN programming on digital.

KBTX debuted on May 22, 1957 as the first commercial station in the Brazos Valley. Its signal also reaches the northern fringes of the Houston market. KBTX actively covers Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Milam, Montgomery, Robertson, Walker and Washington Counties. Texas A&M University, Sam Houston State University and Blinn College are in its coverage area.

KBTX-TV falls under the "KBTX Media" banner, which also includes [http://www.mycwtexas.com CW Texas] (in partnership with KWTX) and [http://www.kbtx.com KBTX.com] , which includes [http://www.mobilekbtx.com MobileKBTX.com] .

Operations

Though identifying as a station in its own right, KBTX is considered a semi-satellite of KWTX. It has most of its internal operations run alongside KWTX, and clears all of KWTX's syndicated programming (although it has some shows not seen on KWTX).

It is the only station airing a full schedule of local news for the Bryan/College Station side of the Waco/Temple/Bryan market, airing five live newscasts each weekday from its studios in Bryan.

* Though ABC affiliate KRHD produces two local newscasts each weekday, its shows are taped at KXXV in Waco, with only a small news crew and office in Bryan.
* NBC affiliate KCEN-TV airs its newscasts in the area and has a low-power relay in Bryan, KMAY, but rarely covers the Brazos Valley.
* Fox affiliate KYLE has its own studios, but is a fulltime satellite of KWKT in Waco, which presents a pre-taped newscast produced by its sister station in Longview, Texas, KFXK.

*Barbara Smith and Joe Brown both worked at KBTX, left to work for the City of Bryan (as well as other jobs), then came back to the station.
