Gregory Wayne "Cadillac" Anderson (born
June 22 1964 in Houston,Texas ) is a retired American professionalbasketball player in theNational Basketball Association .A 6' 10" power forward/center, he was part of the later versions of the
Phi Slamma Jamma teams at theUniversity of Houston , succeeding Akeem Olajuwon upon his move to theHouston Rockets of theNBA .He earned the nickname "
Cadillac " because he rode hisbicycle to and from campus. He competed in the 1984 Final Four in Seattle while at U of H. He was also an accomplished pole vaulter in high school, but abandoned the sport when he grew too tall.He was selected 23rd overall by the
San Antonio Spurs in the1987 NBA Draft . He also played for theMilwaukee Bucks ,New Jersey Nets ,Denver Nuggets ,Detroit Pistons , andAtlanta Hawks . The 1988-89 season spent with the Spurs was his most productive, averaging 13.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. In 1991-92, with the Nuggets, he averaged 11.5 points and a career-best 11.5 rebounds per game. He participated with playoff teams for the Spurs, Bucks, and Hawks. He also played in the Italian league with Phonola Caserta in 1993, averaging 16 points and more than 13 rebounds per game.
