Tunghai University (zh-tw: 東海大學, Pe̍h-oē-jī: Tang-hái-täi-hãk), was founded by Protestant missionaries in 1955. The University is located on the western side of Taichung, Taiwan, an urbanized area. On the grounds, Luce Memorial Chapel (designed by noted architect I. M. Pei) is a local landmark.

Tunghai villa, Taichung County, is the nearest commercial area. Tunghai Art Street, the Taichung Metropolitan Park and the Feng Chia Night Market are also near campus.

The Tunghai University Main Library is located at the end of the Campus Mall.

tudent societies

Tunghai has more than one hundred student societies.

The Wei-Mei Climbing Wall was completed in 2004, in memory of "Wei-Mei Lin", a leader of the Mountain Climbing Club, who died in mountain accident in 2001. It is 12 meters high and 9 meters wide. In 2007, the wall burned down. It is now being rebuilt.

Notable Events

In early 2007 it was reported that streams running through and on each side of the campus are also highly polluted and especially noxious during hot weather, and airborne particles of arsenic were recorded at 37.4 nanograms per cubic meter, several times the level considered likely to increase the risk of cancer.
