Pearland Independent School District

Pearland Independent School District is a school district based in Pearland, Texas, United States.

Pearland ISD serves most of the city of Pearland (including master-planned communities such as Silverlake) and the city of Brookside Village.

Each house or residential area in Pearland is zoned to an elementary school (grades PK-4), a middle school (5-6), a junior high school (7-8), and one of the two high schools (9-12).

Dr. Bonny Cain has been superintendent since 2000. Prior to becoming superintendent, she was assistant superintendent of administration, executive director of support services, principal at Pearland Jr. High East, and principal at C.J. Harris Elementary. She has been with the district since 1988.

As of 2007, the district is operated by a seven member elected board of trustees.

History

In 2005 PISD officials announced that when the district hired a teacher, it knew a teacher had a conviction for theft. The teacher later found himself accused of committing two sex crimes at Pearland High School. He was the fourth Pearland ISD teacher from 2003 to 2005 to be charged with sex crimes involving students. [http://thefacts.com/story.lasso?ewcd=fb4646766f1f95ae]

Standardized dress

Since 2001, All Pearland ISD schools are required to enact a "standardized dress" code, which is similar to a school uniform.
