place of death =Thomas de Brantingham (d. 1394), English lord treasurer and
bishop of Exeter , came of aDurham family. An older relative,Ralph de Brantingham , had served Edward II and Edward III, and Thomas was made a clerk in the treasury. Edward III, obtained preferment for him in the church, and from 1361 to 1368 he was employed inFrance in responsible positions. He was closely associated withWilliam of Wykeham , and while the latter was in power as chancellor,Fact|date=April 2008 Brantingham wasLord Treasurer from 1369 to 1371, and again from 1377 to 1381,Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 105] being made bishop of Exeter onMarch 5 1370 . He was consecrated onMay 12 1370 .Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 246] He continued to play a prominent part in public affairs under Richard II,{ [cn and in 1389 was again lord treasurer for a few months. He died in December of 1394, probably on the 23rd, and was buried inExeter cathedral .Notes
