World Modern Arnis Alliance

World Modern Arnis Alliance

The World Modern Arnis Alliance or WMAA is a martial arts organization dedicated to teaching the art of the late Grandmaster Remy Presas, Modern Arnis and promotion of the Filipino Martial Arts. The organization incorporates Remy Presas's Modern Arnis and several other influences in its teachings. It was founded by Datu Tim Hartman in 1990, and is headquartered in West Seneca, New York (a suburb of Buffalo, New York), and is one of the largest and most active Modern Arnis organizations in the world. It hosts a yearly three-day camp at the headquarters site, and seminars are regularly held throughout the U.S. and Europe.

History

The W.M.A.A. was originally a sub chapter of the International Modern Arnis Federation (IMAF) under Professor Remy A. Presas. Known then as Can-Am Chapter of the IMAF, it's intent was to supplement Professor Presas's organization. When Professor Presas's retirement was announced in 2000, the organization split off from the IMAF and changed it's name to World Modern Arnis Alliance, with an initial focus on Remy Presas's Modern Arnis, Balintawak stick fighting, the Filipino empty hand techniques in American Kenpo Karate and the combative intensity of Burmese Bando. It has since expanded and integrated techniques from related systems, such as GM Ernesto Presas's Kombatan.

Annual HQ Camp

Each year, the WMAA hosts a three day training camp at it's headquarters school, Horizon Martial Arts in West Seneca, NY. Past camps have featured a list of respected instructors covering not just martial arts training, but martial arts business training as well.
