William Douglas Parker is the current chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the US Airways Group.
Parker has been with US Airways since June 1995, when he joined as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of America West Airlines. He additionally held titles as Executive Vice President, corporate group, and Chief Operating Officer before being elected Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of America West in September 2001.
He continued as CEO of US Airways following the merger with America West Airlines in 2005. Under his tenure as CEO, he made an unsuccessful bid to merge US Airways and Delta Air Lines in 2007.
Before joining America West Airlines, Parker was at American Airlines from 1986 to 1991, and was Vice President and Assistant Treasurer at Northwest Airlines from 1991 to 1995.
Parker has a BA in Economics from Albion College (1984) and an MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University (1986). He lives in Paradise Valley, Arizona with his wife, Gwen Parker, and three children.
On January 31, 2007, Parker was arrested for DWI in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was eventually sentenced to 24 hours in jail.[1] It turns out that Mr Parker has a history of driving under the influence of alcohol.[2]
In 2007 and 2008, Parker contributed over $10,000 to various Republican Party campaigns.
