USS Alaska

Four ships of the United States Navy have been named "Alaska" in honor of the territory acquired by the United States from Russia in 1867 which later became the 49th state.

*The USS|Alaska|1868, was a wooden-hulled screw sloop-of-war that saw numerous small actions between the American Civil War and the Spanish-American War.

*The USS|Alaska|1918, was a steam trawler chartered to serve as a minesweeper during World War I.

*The USS|Alaska|CB-1, was the lead ship of the "Alaska class" cruisers and saw action in the last days of World War II.

*The USS|Alaska|SSBN-732, is an "Ohio" class ballistic missile submarine currently in service.
