July 2 ,1952 , inKingston, Pennsylvania ) is a formerAmerican football quarterback who played in theNational Football League for eight seasons, from 1977 through 1984 after playing collegiately atNew Mexico State University . His first professional team was theCalgary Stampeders of theCanadian Football League , where he played from 1974 to 1976. He began hisNFL career with theNew York Giants , and is best remembered for his role in aNovember 19 ,1978 game where the Giants, up 17-12 with only seconds to play and the opponent out of time-outs, lost after his ill-advised handoff (a play called byoffensive coordinator Bob Gibson over Pisarcik's objections) toLarry Csonka was fumbled and returned for a touchdown byHerman Edwards of thePhiladelphia Eagles . The play has ever since been remembered as "The Miracle at the Meadowlands " by Eagles fans.Ironically, Pisarcik signed with the Eagles in 1980 after the Giants had released him, and remained with the latter club until retiring after the end of the 1984 season.
