- Piano Trio No. 1 (Schubert)
The Trio No. 1 in B-flat major for piano, violin, and violoncello, D. 898, was written by Franz Schubert in 1827. The composer finished the work in 1828, in the last year of his life [Sleeve note of the Supraphon CD (SU 3959-2)] [Gibbs p. 187] . It was published in 1836 as Opus 99, 8 years after the composer's death. ]tructure
The piano trio contains four movements:
*"Allegro moderato"
*"Andante un poco mosso"
*"Scherzo. Allegro"
*"Rondo. Allegro vivace"
The third movement is in the classical minuet form, with the trio section resembling a relaxed waltz.The principal theme of the last movement resembles that of one of Schubert's songs, "Skolie".[Einstein pp. 278-279] ]Footnotes
