Putao ( _my. ပူတာအိုမြို့) is one of the cities of
Kachin State ,Myanmar and is the site of theWorld War II BritishFort Hertz . It can only be reached by road during summer but is accessible year round by air. The area around Putao is famous for the variety of rareorchid s, which grow naturally. Famous orchid called "Black Orchid" can be explored around Putao mountainous region. All-weather snow-capped mountains can be seen from Putao. Because ofmountaineer-friendly area, tourists and mountaineers are visiting Putao.Hkamti Long
Hkamti Long (also Khamti Long) is the former name of the area around the city of
Putao inMyanmar (formerly known as Burma) settled by the Hkamti Shan people of the country. The name means "Great Place ofGold " in the Hkamti Shan language [http://www.burmalibrary.org/reg.burma/archives/199801/msg00077.html] . Nowadays, there are Rawang and Lisu nationalities which are already regarded as Kachin nationalities. The seven-day-trek to West-Putao's mountain region, in which explorers found that there areHta Lone (Hta Rone) ethnic whose height are lower than four feet. The population of this ethnic minority is so few nowadys that they are facing the threat of being extinct. The area covered by Hkamti Long may have included parts of what is nowKachin State (where Putao is located) as well as that ofShan State .ee also
