USS Seahawk

USS Seahawk

No ship of the United States Navy has borne the name USS "Seahawk" although a World War I-era patrol boat was named the USS "Sea Hawk".

In fiction

There have been at least three ships named USS "Seahawk" in fiction.

The 1959 movie "Submarine Seahawk" is set on the eponymous World War II submarine, which is threatened with mutiny.

In the American version of the movie King Kong vs Godzilla, the nuclear submarine that awoke Godzilla at the beginning of the movie was called "The Seahawk".

In the television show "JAG", the aircraft carrier USS "Seahawk" (CVN-65) is a recurring location. It also appeared in the "NCIS" Season 6 premiere. Anthony DiNozzo was stationed on the Seahawk. The putative USS "Seahawk" is, in fact, the USS "John C. Stennis" (CVN-74).

HMS Seahawk

There is a Seahawk in British service. HMS Seahawk is not a ship, but the name for Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, at Helston in Cornwall. HMS Seahawk is one of only two shore establishments that play host to the Fleet Air Arm, the naval aviation component of the Royal Navy, and is thus very important in generating maritime airpower for Her Majesties Armed Forces and the UK as a whole.
