Julius Eichberg

Julius Eichberg (June 13, 1824 – January 18, 1893) was a German musical composer.

He was born in Düsseldorf, Germany. When he was nineteen he entered the Brussels Conservatoire, where he took first prizes for violin-playing and composition. For eleven years he occupied the post of professor in the Conservatoire of Geneva. In 1857 he went to the United States, staying two years in New York and then proceeding to Boston, USA, where he became director of the orchestra at the Boston Museum. In 1867 he founded the Boston Conservatory of Music. Eichberg published several educational works on music. As a composer he is particularly known for his three operettas, "The Rose of Tyrol" (1865), "The Two Cadis" (1868) and "A Night in Rome", and for his opera "The Doctor of Alcantara" (1862). He died in Boston, Massachusetts.
