"G.P." is an
Australian television series shown by theAustralian Broadcasting Corporation between1989 and1996 .The series was set around a general medical practice in a suburb of
Sydney and explored both the personal and professional lives of the doctors and other staff who worked there.The programme is currently shown in Canada on
CBC Country Canada , a digital television station. G.P. was also shown in Ireland on RTE1, and as repeats most weekday mornings (4.30am) on theAustralian Broadcasting Corporation , the television station responsible for its original production.Central Independent Television ,Thames Television andBorder Television were the only contractors among the 14 members of theITV Network to screen the programme for a short period. Thames started the show on Thursdays October 1 1992 Thursdays and Fridays for half hour episodes at 3.20pm. Central axed the show on Thursday March 25 1993 and replaced it withShortland Street . The programme was shown in a daily 3.20pm slot Tuesdays to Fridays and had the hour long episodes split into two to accommodate the half hour slot. This was a popular format for screening acquired Australian material as had been used withA Country Practice ,E Street ,Blue Heelers andheadLand by UK broadcasters.Awards
