Bari Region

Bari ( _so. Bari) is an administrative region ("gobolka") in northern Somalia. Major cities include Bosaso (the capital) and Qardho. It is bordered by regions Sanaag and Sool to the west, Nugaal to the south, the Gulf of Aden to the north, and the Indian Ocean to the east. In terms of land mass, Bari is the largest province in the Somali republic. The majority of the inhabitants belong to the Ali Saleebaan and Cisman Mohamoud subclans of the Majeerteen, and the Mohamud Ali sucblan of the Leelkase, who are both of the larger Darood tribe.

It was particularly hard hit by the Tsunami caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Over a hundred people were killed on the Hafun peninsula and the coastal road, linking the area with the rest of Somalia, was severely damaged.

Division into Bari and Karkaar

According to the government of the autonomous state of Puntland, the Bari region is divided into two administrative regions: Bari in the north ( with its capital being Bosaso ) and Karkaar in the south ( with its capital being Qardho ).cite web
