- Bari Region
Bari ( _so. Bari) is an administrative region ("gobolka") in northern
Somalia . Major cities includeBosaso (the capital) andQardho . It is bordered by regionsSanaag andSool to the west,Nugaal to the south, theGulf of Aden to the north, and theIndian Ocean to the east. In terms of land mass, Bari is the largest province in the Somali republic. The majority of the inhabitants belong to theAli Saleebaan andCisman Mohamoud subclans of theMajeerteen , and theMohamud Ali sucblan of theLeelkase , who are both of the largerDarood tribe.It was particularly hard hit by the Tsunami caused by the
2004 Indian Ocean earthquake off the coast ofSumatra ,Indonesia . Over a hundred people were killed on theHafun peninsula and the coastal road, linking the area with the rest of Somalia, was severely damaged.Division into Bari and Karkaar
