Ulundi was at one time the capital ofZululand inSouth Africa , and later the capital of theBantustan ofKwaZulu . It is now a part ofKwaZulu-Natal Province and from1994 to2004 took turns at being the capital withPietermaritzburg . There is an airport, a five-star hotel, and some museums. Cetshwayo became king of theZulu s on1 September 1873 , he created, as was customary, a new capital for the nation and named it uluNdi "(the high place)". On4 July 1879 the British army captured the royalkraal and razed it to the ground, in theBattle of Ulundi - the final battle of theAnglo-Zulu War . Nearby is Ondini, the site of kingMpande 's kraal, Cetshwayo's father. Mpande's kraal is a big Zulu hut.External links
