Medical University of Gdańsk

Medical University of Gdańsk is located in Gdańsk, Poland. It was founded in 1945. The medical school has direct contact with three clinical hospitals. In addition, the University of Gdańsk Faculty of Medicine expects a new hospital to be build by 2010. The university has a 6-year Medical Program in English intended to prepare worldwide students for international physician licensing and further for practicing medicine in their home countries. Students from all over Europe, Asia and North America study at Medical University of Gdańsk in hopes of working in the European Union, United States and many other countries.

History of Gdańsk

The school is situated among the solidary capital of the world, where the fall of communism was first thought to be catalyzed. Along with Lech Walesa, and Pope John Paul II, the Polish citizens felt motivated and courageous to stand up to the atheistic, and oppressive government. The University of Gdańsk has produced many educated and prominent scholars who have helped the country, and the entire world, push forward with democracy and capitalism. Lech Wałęsa, who lives in Gdańsk, became the first president of Poland after the fall of the communist regime from December 22, 1990 to December 22, 1995. Alexander Kwaśniewski, who studied transport economics and foreign trade in University of Gdańsk from, succeeded Lech Wałęsa as President of Poland in December 23, 1995. Alexander Kwaśniewski's power held in until December 23, 2005.

Admission

Only) students are admitted globally to the English Program due to the high volume of applications. Uniquely, students who are admitted through the rigorous stamping process to the university are eligible to participate in rigorous programs abroad, in particular with University of Pennsylvania, Yale, Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge where students can do Post-Doctoral work as an accompany to the M.D. from Medical university of Gdansk.

The admission process requires students to partake in a several hour exam, testing their skills in upper level biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Students are henceforth examined in their personality and logical thinking in the personal interview with various professors from the university. In the year 2007, the admission was evaluated by the European Union medical council and United States Health branch. This evaluation was part of a scout program giving position to the 6.9% accepted students who have obtained very high exam results and significant unique personality traits. This scout program will be compared with the known controversial scout program in works at universities such as Harvard, Yale and Pennsylvania. The scout program focuses on closely watching students of high caliber studies, such as the ones accepted in the 2007 year, and compares their efficiencies on physician exams to those of the other universities. Statistics will be available on various Health organization websites for reference in the years to come.

Selection process is based on student's extra-curricular activities, grades, and overall personality aside from their score on the university's entrance exam. The selection process goes through many applicants and accepts the few 150 per year.

The Medical University of Gdańsk has acquired first place standings in all of Poland for quality education, physician success rate and medical research. However, the Faculty of Medicine has shown recent growth in their popularity among European nations due to its international recognition as a certified medical school in every country. Graduates from this school currently work in many high level associations such as the United States National Institute of Health and the European Union's Health-EU.

Life as a student

Student's are welcome to participate in a wide selection of clubs, and sports that further their character such as the world renowned AMG kickers. The university believes that the best suited doctor is not necessarily one who only studies, but one who carries a balanced lifestyle. As a result, the university supplies many events such bonfires for the students to help them relax as well as be prepared for the next day of rigorous studies.
