The Maltese Rock Centaury, also known as Widnet il-Baħar, is the national plant of Malta. The plant is endemic to the Maltese Islands. It is the only plant which has "Palaeocyanus" as its genus. It is quite commonly found in the limits of Wied Babu in Malta.

It was first classified by Stefano Zerafa, around 1830.
