- Land Force Central Area
Land Force Central Area (LFCA) is responsible for the administration of the
Canadian Forces ' Land Force Command in the province ofOntario , from theQuebec border to the northern Lakehead region. LFCA is also a force provider for both international and domestic operations, as well as an employer for the latter [ [http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lfca-jtfc/about.asp#aboutJTFC Official LFCA-JTFC Web Site] ] .LFCA is responsible for more than 10,000 soldiers : 5,000 in the regular force and 5,500 in the reserves, as well as 1,200 civilian employees.
LFCA is headquartered at
Denison Armoury inToronto, Ontario near the oldCFB Downsview Base. At the time of its creation in the mid-1990s, it was based at the Place Nouveau office tower atYonge Street north ofFinch Avenue ; this was controversial as the offices were lavishly renovated, attracting political criticism and attention from theAuditor General of Canada .In February 2006,
Canada Command was stood-up to coordinate domestic military operations. As one of six regional commands under Canada Command, Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) is responsible for the conduct of all domestic military operations in the province of Ontario. While LFCA still exists as the command structure for land forces units in Ontario, the commander of LFCA is simultaneously the commander of JTFC, and as such has the authority to deploy all naval, army and air force assets based in Ontario in the event of a domestic crisis or threat [ [http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lfca-jtfc/about.asp#aboutJTFC Official LFCA-JTFC Web Site] ] .Regular Forces
Also stationed at CFB Petawawa are 427 Tactical Helicopter Squadron and 2 Field Ambulance. Although these two units work closely with 2 CMBG, they are not officially part of the brigade group.
