Chile and is the largest western outflow from theSouthern Patagonian Ice Field . Now about 64 km in length, it is the longest glacier in the southern hemisphere outside of Antarctica. [ In the northern hemisphere, Tajikistan'sFedchenko Glacier is 77 km long. In the Karakoram Mountains,Siachen Glacier is 70 km long,Biafo Glacier is 63 km long, and Baltura and Baltoro are 57 km long. Kyrgyzstan's South Inylchek (Enylchek) Glacier is 62 km in length. None in the southern hemisphere outside of Antarctica approach this length. Measurements are from recent imagery, generally also with Russian 1:200,000 scale topographic mapping for reference as well as the 1990 "Orographic Sketch
] Unlike mostglacier s worldwide, it advanced significantly from 1945 to1976 , Brüggen surged 5 km across theEyre Fjord , reaching the western shore by1962 and cutting offLake Greve from the sea. The glacier continued advancing both northward and southward in thefjord to near its present position before stabilizing. The growth covers a distance of more than 10 km north to south, adding nearly 60 square km of ice.ee also
