The foundation stone for a combined town hall and court house was laid on 30 august 1886. The building was designed in the Italianate style and features arch-headed windows, projecting cornices, balustrading, pediments and parapet urns. The central slate roofed tower with dormer ventilators and ridge cresting is a significant feature. [ Victorian Heritage Register Statement of Significance ]

The town hall building is constructed to a rectangular plan with a central hall flanked by the courthouse, magistrates' room and clerk of petty sessions offices to the east, and to the west by the town clerk's office, council chambers, mayor's office and retiring room. The town hall building remains substantially intact, both internally and externally. A skillion roofed concrete addition was constructed to the west facade c 1913 and a rear skillion roof incorporating toilets in 1970.

The court house contains the [http://home.vicnet.net.au/~buninhis/ Buninyong Historical Society] collection, which includes historic items from the former Shire of Buninyong. The Town Hall is now used for many purposes such as the local Sunday market, and also other events such as discos, wedding receptions, debating, and arts exhibitions. The Hall has been extended, with offices now making up the Eastern side of the structure. This is owned by Tortor Plant Hire, and is accessible via an entrance to the left of the main hall entrance.

The Hall boasts many features including a large kitchen, stage, piano, and ample parking at the front and rear (accessible from Scott St).

Buninyong Town Hall is on the service road off Learmonth St, between the Buninyong Urban Fire Brigade and a cafe.
