University of Madrid

The University of Madrid ( _es. Universidad de Madrid) can refer to several academic institutions in Madrid, Spain:

*The University of Alcalá ( _es. Universidad de Alcalá) is a public University located in the city of Alcalá de Henares, to the east of Madrid in Spain. The university was founded in 1499 by Francisco Cardinal Jiménez de Cisneros. During the 16th and 17th century, it gained recognition as a center of academic excellence, with students and faculty including Antonio de Nebrija, Juan de la Cruz, Lope de Vega, Balthazar Alvarez, San Ignacio de Loyola, Mateo Alemán, Jules Mazarin, Pedro Calderón de la Barca and Francisco de Quevedo, amongst many other illustrious men. In fact, its success was so great that is now considered to have been a substantial influence on the new universities being formed in the Americas

*The Rey Juan Carlos University ( _es. Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, URJC) is a public university located in Madrid (Spain), whose name refers to king Juan Carlos I of Spain. It was created in 1996 and has the Latin motto Non nova, sed nove ("Not new things, but in a new way"). Its headquarters are located in Móstoles, where the Rectorate is, although URJC is divided in four campus:

* High School of Experimental Sciences and Technology in Móstoles (since 1998). * Faculty of Health Sciences in Alcorcón (since 1998). * Faculty of Law and Social Sciences in Vicálvaro (Madrid) (since 1998). * Faculty of Communication Sciences, School of Tourism and Technical School of Telecommunication Engineering in Fuenlabrada (since 2000).

It also has three associated centres:

* High School of Commercial Management and Marketing in Somosaguas (Madrid). * ESERP High School in Madrid. * High Centre of Research and Teaching, located in the so-called Nuncio's Palace in Aranjuez.

*The Complutense University of Madrid ( _es. "Universidad Complutense de Madrid", UCM), a public university founded in 1293, initially called the _la. "Universitas Complutensis", later the _es. "Universidad de Madrid", later the _es. "Universidad Central", and re-named the _es. "Universidad Complutense de Madrid" after the fall of the Franco regime; traditionally the institution to which the "University of Madrid" refers.
*The Technical University of Madrid ( _es. "Universidad Politécnica de Madrid", UPM), a public university founded in 1971, composed of the former technical schools of the University of Madrid.
* The Autonomous University of Madrid ( _es. "Universidad Autónoma de Madrid", UAM), a public university founded in 1968.

* The Pontifical Comillas University of Madrid ( _es. "Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid"), a private university, originally based outside Madrid.
