Arizona State University ,Tempe, Arizona in 1950 with abaccalaureate and in 1953 with amaster's degree . At ASU, Jepsen was a member of theTau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, initiating in 1949.He became a
paratrooper in theUnited States Army 1946-1947 and served in theUnited States Army Reserve 1948-1960. He was active infarming ,insurance andhealth care businesses.Served as:
*Scott County, Iowa Supervisor 1962-1965;
*Iowa State senator 1966-1968
*Lieutenant Governor of Iowa 1968-1972
*Elected RepublicanUnited States Senator onNovember 7 ,1978 , and served fromJanuary 3 ,1979 , toJanuary 3 ,1985 ; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1984. A major issue in the campaign was Jepsen's decision to support the sale of AWACS aircraft to Saudi Arabia despite having promised not to.
