Vaughn Wiester is an American
jazz musician and educator.Born in Abilene, Texas, on July 11, 1945, and raised in
Mount Vernon, Ohio , Wiester began playing with local jazz bands in his teens. After abandoning a music education atOhio State University , Wiester worked as a freelancetrombonist for several years, notably withWoody Herman in the mid-1970s.Since returning to Ohio, Wiester has taught jazz studies at
Capital University in Columbus (although he left that position in the early '90s), and has worked with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, the Rick Brunetto Big Band,Ernie Krivda and the Fat Tuesday Big Band, and many others including his own big band, the Famous Jazz Orchestra. A friend ofBill Holman , Wiester is also a very talentedarranger .One can always catch Wiester every Monday night when he performs with his Famous Jazz Orchestra at the Columbus Maennerchor in German Village in Columbus, Ohio.
