Ivory Crockett

Ivory Crockett (born August 24 1948) is a former sprinter who, for a time, held the distinction of being "the world's fastest man" at his distance. Crockett, a track star from "St. Louis" ran college sprints for "Southern Illinois University - Carbondale" . In 1974, Crockett broke the world record for the 100-yard dash by being timed at just nine seconds flat. This was timed manually. The "Los Angeles Times" characterized the event with the headline "Immortality in 9 Seconds Flat".
