- Carl Gustaf von Nieroth
Count Carl Gustaf von Nieroth, a Swedish-Finnish military and Governor-General of
Swedish Estonia 1709-1710 and of Finland 1710-1712.His date and location of his birth are unknown, but it was in
Finland . The first information of his life is as acornet of theSwedish Army inPomerania ,1671 . In 1692 he had risen to the rank oflieutenant colonel , and in 1700 tomajor general . TheGreat Northern War (1700-1721) started that year, and Nieroth was involved in several successful battles, and was in 1704 appointedlieutenant general .After
Viborg was lost in 1710, Nieroth was sent to try and reclaim it. He had managed to gather 10,000 men who sieged the city in 1711, but lacked proper equipment to enter it, and had to retreat. He died suddenly while temporarily halting inPärnå parish, onJanuary 25 ,1712 .External links
