"LA CityBeat" is an alternative weekly newspaper in Los Angeles, California. "LA CityBeat" is available every Thursday at more than 2,000 distribution locations throughout the Los Angeles market with select distribution in Long Beach, Orange County and the Inland Empire. "LA CityBeat" is a member of the Alternative Weekly Network and was a rare unanimous recommendation for membership in the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies. StaffThe inaugural staff included editor-in-chief Steve Appleford, publisher Rick Haelig (formerly of "SF Weekly"), deputy editor Dean Kuipers (author and journalist currently at the "Los Angeles Times"), arts editor Natalie Nichols, film editor Andy Klein, staff writer Dennis Romero (DJ and most recently a full-time editorial director at the now defuct "Tu Ciudad" [part of Emmis Communication which owns "Los Angeles Magazine"] ), art director Dana Collins, advertising art director Sandy Wachs, senior sales man Joe Cloninger (now at "homefront la"), production manager Kurt Thomas and calendar editor Rebecca Epstein (now at "LA Metromix"), salesmen Michael Young (now at "Frontiers") and Beau Barnhardt (formerly of "OC Weekly"), and business manager Michael Nagami. Contributors have included Mick Farren, Andrew Gumbel, Tom Hayden, Erik Himmelsbach, Richard Meltzer, Anthony Miller, Chris Morris, Donna Perlmutter, Richard Foss, Don Shirley, Kirk Silsbee, Joshua Sindell, and David L. Ulin. Shortly after the launch entertainment ad specialist Jon Bookatz (formerly of "LA Weekly") joined the business staff. It is also home to the Los Angeles Press Club 2007 selection for Print Journalist of the Year, Michael Collins. Graphic artists who have contributed regularly include Jordan Crane, Tony Millionaire, Ted Rall, and Brian Stauffer. Los Angeles based-photographer Gary Leonard's "Take My Picture" (a long-running photo feature that originally debuted in Los Angeles Reader and then New Times LA) continues to appear weekly in "LA CityBeat".

"CityBeat" in 2008 In August 2008, Amit Mehta rejoined the business staff of "LA CityBeat" as Sales Director after nearly two years at "LA Weekly". In May 2008, Paul Takizawa joined "LA CityBeat" as art director after 14 years designing ads at LA Weekly. In June 2008, Ron Garmon was named arts editor. "LA CityBeat" debuted a new design and logo on June 12, 2008, and with that issue Rebecca Schoenkopf was named Editor. Andy Klein, current and inaugural film editor is a frequent guest on KPCC's (89.3 FM) "Film Talk" hosted by Larry Mantle. In September 2008, "LA CityBeat" introduced it's new physical format as a stitched and trimmed tabloid with a glossy cover.
