Definitely Maybe " and was written by leadguitar istNoel Gallagher . The song is, as suggested by its title, a rock 'n' roll tune. It has become a fan favourite and is usually played at the band's concerts. It was released as a radio single in America and has a video. The lyrics, as seen in a number of Noel Gallagher's songs, refer to his dreams and aspirations to become a rock star, and his hopes to move away from
Manchester , the place of his upbringing.Noel said that "Rock 'n' Roll Star" was one of only three songs of which he wanted to say something. "I'm pretty much summed up everything I wanted to say in "Rock 'n' Roll Star", "
Live Forever " and "Cigarettes & Alcohol ", after that I'm repeating myself, but in a different way".The song was featured on the band's
2000 live album andDVD , "Familiar to Millions ", and another live version was recorded at a2 July 2005 concert at the City of Manchester Stadium and released on the band's single "Let There Be Love" in late 2005.The song opens Oasis' compilation album "
Stop the Clocks ", released in November 2006. In an interview about the song choices for the album, Noel commented: "it's probably my best ever song".The promo video was shot in Southend-on-Sea in Essex around the time the band recorded their Live Video/DVD '
Live By The Sea '. The shorts of the band playing live are taken from that release. In the video the band are seen on Southend Pier, in and around the amusement park, 'Adventure Island' then named 'Peter Pan's Playground' and in the bowling alley which was located on Southend Pier before it burnt down in June 1995.It is also included in the European release and as a download of the music video game "Rock Band". This version includes an extended outro and guitar solo uncovered from the master recording (the album version features a fade-out instead).
