Beihan or Bayhan ( _ar. بيحان [Unicode|Bayḥān] ), officially the Emirate of Beihan ( _ar. إمارة بيحان [Unicode|Imārat Bayḥān] ), was a state in the British
Aden Protectorate and theFederation of South Arabia . Its capital was Suq Abdulla, now calledBeihan .History
The ruling Al Habieli family, related to the
Hashemite s, came to power in Beihan in the 17th century. In the late 19th century, the area came under British influence and eventually became a constituent of the Aden Protectorate. The Emirate was a founding member of theFederation of Arab Emirates of the South in 1959 and its successor, theFederation of South Arabia , in 1963. The lastemir orsharif , Saleh al Hussein Al Habieli, was deposed in August 1967 and the Emirate was abolished in November 1967 upon the founding of thePeople's Republic of South Yemen and the area is now part of the Republic ofYemen .Al Habieli emirs of Beihan
