- Endoeus
Endoeus was an
ancient Greek sculptor who worked atAthens in the middle of the6th century BC . We are told that he made an image ofAthena dedicated byCallias the contemporary ofPisistratus at Athens about 564 BC. An inscription bearing his name has been found at Athens, written inIonic dialect . The tradition which made him a pupil ofDaedalus is apparently misleading, since Daedalus had no connection with Ionic art.He was also known to have crafted an ivory
Athena Alea , which was in the temple of that goddess inTegea until it was taken byAugustus to Rome to adorn theForum of Augustus .References
