Kent Douglas (born
6 February , 1936 inCobalt, Ontario ) is a retired professionalice hockey defenceman and coach. He is best remembered for winning theCalder Trophy as Rookie of the Year in the1962–63 NHL season , when he played for theToronto Maple Leafs .Before his first NHL season, Douglas spent five years playing for the AHL's
Springfield Indians , under the tutelage of the eccentricEddie Shore .Douglas was unable to maintain his early success, although he did go on to play more than 400 NHL games. Douglas won three
Stanley Cup s while with the Leafs, and also played for theDetroit Red Wings . However, he spent the majority of his career in the AHL, where he also spent almost two seasons as the co-coach of theBaltimore Clippers .Awards & Achievements
