Phú Thọ Province (audio|Phu Tho.ogg|pronunciation; Hán Tự: ) is a province in northeastern Vietnam.

Phú Thọ is situated at the apex of the triangle Red River Delta linking Hanoi with Northern mountainous provinces such as Tuyên Quang, Hà Giang, Yen Bai, and Lao Cai. Viet Tri City is the provincial capital of Phú Thọ, which is 80 km northwest of Hanoi and 50 km from Noi Bai International Airport.

Geography

The total area is 3465 km². The population, as of 1997, is 1,296,178 of which urban population accounts for 15%; rural population accounts for 85%. The average population density is 3706 per sq. km except Viet Tri City, in which it is 21,042 per sq. km.

There are three large rivers running through the province. They are the Red, Lo, and Da rivers, with a total length of 200km.

Quality of the ground water is quite good. The average flow is 40-50cubic meter/hour in the plains, and 10cubic meter/hour in the hilly regions.

The annual average temperature is 23°C. The month with the highest average temperature is July (29°C). The month with the lowest average temperature is February (15°C).

The annual average humidity is 85%. Humidity is high in the rainy season (May to October). In the dry season, it is sometimes below 80°C.

The annual average rainfall is 1800 mm -- most of the rain falls in August, and less in January. Most of the rain usually falls between April and September.

In the period during 1990-1995, the annual increase rate is 72%. The average increase of agricultural product value is 31%, with industry at 15%, and service at 117%.

There are 36 central economic units, 63 local economic units, and 5 foreign investment capital enterprises based on Phú Thọ under different markets.

The economic structure in 1997 is as follows: agro-forestry - 33.1%, industry construction - 338%, and service - 331%.

Education, health services, and culture

There are 542 schools (8779 classes) with a total of 304,326 pupils, and four high schools totalling 30,221 pupils. There are also three colleges and one pre-university.

The health service of Phú Thọ delivers to 3 lines:
*The quarter line: 269 stations with 1076 beds
*The district line: 11 hospitals and 5 stations - 100 beds/hospital.
*The province line: 5 hospitals with 1255 beds.

However, because of the shortage of local budget expenditure, investment capital is needed to upgrade the schools and supplement the medical equipment.

Hung temple (Den Hung) is a beautiful landscape - a national historical location where Vietnamese memorize Hung King because of their contributions to the country 4000 years ago. Phú Thọ wants to increase investment capital in order to serve tourist demand, both domestically and overseas.

To parallel the economic development, Phú Thọ has invested money in building an SOS village to look after children orphaned by war. Phú Thọ would like the assistance of international organizations in order to increase the quality of health care as well as giving money to the orphanage.
