Sandnessjøen is the centre of the municipality of Alstahaug in the county of Nordland, Norway, with a population of 5,716. [cite paper | author=Statistics Norway | title=Urban settlements. Sandnessjøen was a separate municipality from 1899 to 1965, when it was incorporated into Alstahaug.
